Usually ships in 1 business days | | | | | | The 5th Edition continues to set the standard for developing a working knowledge of modern routine blood banking. Building from a review of the basic science to the how and why of clinical practice, this text is thorough guide to immunohematology and transfusion practices. "It begins with six color plates of which Plate 2 - standardized grading of macroscopic red cell antigen-antibody reactions - is extraordinarily useful. These are actual photomicrographs of immediate spin reactions and at a glance, will automatically assure standardized reporting of the reactions. Chapter on medicolegal and ethical aspects of providing blood collection and transfusion service is simply fascinating reveting reading. An added bonus is the table of blood group characteri stics (antigen, ISBT number, frequency in different ethnicities, expression during life, etc.) on the inside covers at the front and back of the book. Nothing like having a quick complete reference when you need it! This is a great book." Valerie L. Ng, PhD, MD, University of California, San Francisco, California for Doody Review Service. | | | |

By Beerma I'm a 4th year medical student, and found this book extremely helpful during my Blood Bank rotation. It is really good at explaining the concepts behind the technical procedures.

A companion to day-by-day situations in blood banking. Sep 09, 1997 In this work, the author was complete when joining basic aspects in blood banking to routine methods and even advanced concepts. A very usefull textbook for students, residents or blood bankers, where current subjects as quality control and ethical aspects are aproached with precision and clearness

The Harmening books which span more than twenty years in the making are without question the best source of transfusion medicine practices on the market today. Content areas include genetics, molecular biology, blood groups, antibody identification, transfusion transmitted diseases, hemolytic disease of the newborn, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, etc... Contributors are experts in their field providing a wealth of knowledge to the blood banking student and transfusion medicine fellow. Every blood bank should buy this book!!

Does its job pretty well Mar 24, 2007
By Schadenfreude For beginning blood bankers this is quite a valuable textbook. The topics covered are comprehensive in knowledge and fairly well organized. Like all textbooks that are written by multiple authors, some chapters are more difficult to follow than others, but I believe Mrs. Harmening did a commendable job editing the book. Overall, a very good book for students.

Great!!! Jul 01, 1999 Comprehensive, precise covering from basics to applications, and from both theoretical and modern technical view point. Frequest figures and tables help me understand each topic a lot. I also like review questions and case studies at the end of each chapter. This book is a book I always reach for my immunohaematology studies at university.
